Tintern Abbey, Co. Wexford is a Cistercian house, daughter of Tintern Major in Monmouthshire, Wales. It was founded as a result of a vow by William Marshall, Earl of Pembroke, when he was imperilled at sea. The nave is of c.1300, with a 15th c crossing tower, and the south transept has undergone imaginative neo-Gothic restoration. Some details of the Chancel derive from the mother house, c.1269-88.
