JFK Celebrations

New Ross has announced details of the unveiling of a life-sized bronze sculpture dedicated to President John F. Kennedy on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of his historic visit to Ireland. This is the only statue on the island of Ireland dedicated to the memory and legacy of President John F. Kennedy. The sculpture will be unveiled during a gala ceremony in New Ross, Co Wexford, on Sunday, 29th June 2008 at 2pm.Ireland’s favourite broadcaster, Gay Byrne, will serve as Master of Ceremonies. 

Former United States Ambassador to Ireland, Jean Kennedy Smith, will attend the ceremony as a special guest of honour. In what will be an emotional remembrance of her brother and his immense contribution to the important relationship between Ireland and the United States, she will share her own personal thoughts on President Kennedy’s historic visit to New Ross.
